Control unit for monitoring charging operation in a 12-volt vehicle electrical system (engine running). If auxiliary consumers are only to be switched on when the engine is running (the alternator is supplying power), or if the auxiliary battery is to be charged via an isolating relay by connecting the auxiliary and starter batteries together, then the D+ contact of the alternator is usually used to control a relay. Often, however, this contact is inaccessible in the vehicle, no longer present in newer alternators, unavailable in containerized vehicles, or voltage-dependent control is generally required. The D+ simulator provides a solution here. It generates a voltage-controlled signal (e.g., from the starter battery) for a subsequent high-capacity (isolating) relay. Further applications include controlling auxiliary consumers that should only be activated when the battery is sufficiently charged, such as switching on an air conditioner while driving or switching a refrigerator, cooler, or warmer to 12V onboard operation. Intelligent voltage evaluation of the switching thresholds prevents false activations during voltage dips or spikes. Dynamic threshold detection also prevents oscillation around the switching points when switching very large loads. An LED indicates the switching status. The electronics are protected against moisture, and connection is made via a screw terminal in the rear terminal compartment. The switching output can handle 12 V / 0.5 A, is short-circuit and overload resistant, and is of type PNP, positive output, load on the ground side.
